Gary Sammarco

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our colleague and friend, Gary Sammarco, President of East Side Clinical Laboratory in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, following a year-long battle with prostate cancer.
Born in Rhode Island, Gary will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his colleagues and employees and his commitment to providing outstanding laboratory services to patients and clinical providers across Rhode Island. Gary joined East Side Clinical Laboratory in 1997, serving as General Manager before becoming President in 2009. He was an integral and respected member of the Northeast Division Senior Leadership team. As a leader, Gary led with authenticity, empathy, and humor, but most importantly truly valued the people he worked with. Even under pressure, Gary kept his sense of humor and calm demeanor.
Gary was well respected in the local business and medical community. He actively supported many local and state health department initiatives. During the pandemic, Gary was instrumental in helping the State Health Department and Governor’s office provide significant testing access to patients in Rhode Island. A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, his passions included a love for music, the New England Patriots, golf, and spending time at his vacation home in South Carolina.
Gary will be remembered for his cheerful spirit, bright smile, and significant contributions to laboratory medicine and Sonic Healthcare USA.
